1805

As William Blake penned the last words of Jerusalem (later set to music by Parry) and Lord Nelson led his fleet into the Battle of Trafalgar, James Edwards was born.

Battle of Trafalgar

James was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire in 1805, but as the record of his baptism has to date not been found, we do not know the names of his parents. However we do know that his father was a pottery manager, a respected and efficient one, and so James was from a family of potters in a world of potters.

James’s brother, Thomas, was to join him in 1811 and there was also a brother William and a sister Eliza.
