Following a year that saw James serve for a second term as a Guardian of the Poor and the birth of a second grandson, Joseph Henry. James welcomed his son Richard as a full partner of the Dalehall pottery.

From May until October of 1851 The Great Exhibition took place in Hyde Park, London. It was a celebration of modern industrial technology and design where James Edwards & Son joined countries from around the world to display their achievements. In the North Transept Gallery on stand number 37, James exhibited a large Parian Vase together with a large earthenware tray.
