1835 – James Edwards became the father of a daughter, Maria, who was baptised at St. Paul’s Church in Burslem on 9th August 1835.

1835/1836 - James left George Phillips’s employment after 10 years to go into partnership with John Maddock. This would have been a step up in responsibility and status.
1838 - The Edwards-Maddock partnership was dissolved in September 1838. Maddock went on to join with Joshua Seddon and to continue producing good quality work.
1839 - Early in 1839 James joined his younger brother Thomas, as partner, first at the Kiln Croft Works, Burslem, and later at Sylvester Street. This appears to have been a smaller establishment than he was used to running but, as an enterprise, it was highly successful.
